Throughout my dissertation, I want to raise awareness of the subtle bias against women in sports, with a focus on Taekwondo and related martial arts. My research focuses on the visual representation of women in martial arts, attacking issues such as lack of support, bias and feelings of under-representation. Representation of women in sports means showing how women are portrayed within the sport and challenging issues. One area of design that inspires me most is inclusive design and designing for the underrepresented. As a second-degree blackbelt of over 10 years, I have witnessed my female competitors’ highs and lows.
